Shopian : Slain militant’s sister dies; Thousands Attend Funeral
An avalanche of people from different areas took part in the funeral prayers of a teenager, Saima Wani, who passed away last night at SKIMS Srinagar. She is also a sister of slain militant Sameer wani.
At least two consecutive funerals were held to accommodate the huge number of people who flocked to the Aodoo village of Saima.
Saima (20) was injured during a shootout between militants and government forces on January 24 in the Chaigund village of the district.
The deceased was also the sister of Hizb militant Sameer Wani, who died in the shooting with the forces.
With his death, the number of civilians killed in the Shopian since January 25 has reached six.
Witnesses said thousands of people from Pulwama, Shopian and neighboring villages participated in Saima’s funeral amid slogans in favor of freedom and anti-India.
They said that ‘taranas’ were transmitted through public address systems during the funeral.
Meanwhile, a complete closure is being observed in the districts of Pulwama and Shopian against his murder.
All shops and commercial establishments remained closed while traffic was off the roads.
The mobile Internet service was suspended in both districts the night before.
